MYOFACIAL PAIN SYNDROME:



Myofascial pain syndrome is a chronic pain disorder. There is, pressure on sensitive points in your muscles (trigger points) causes pain in seemingly unrelated parts of your body. This is called referred pain. Myofascial pain syndrome typically occurs after a muscle has been contracted repetitively. This can be caused
by repetitive motions used in jobs or hobbies or by stress-related muscle tension. I saw this conditions mostly in employees who are working with computer related and or some stress inducing jobs.  
Signs and symptoms of myofascial pain syndrome may include: Pain ( deep and aching pain in nature) . Pain persists or worsens their routine life. These patients having tender knots over their painful areas. Worsens their night due to inability to sleep because of pain. Insomnia or awakening at night due to severe pain.
CausesYou can see a lot of people with upper back pain without a mojor cause or unknown cause . But there is reasons, They are ,Sensitive areas of tight muscle fibers can form in your muscles after injuries or overuse. These sensitive areas are called trigger points. A trigger point in a muscle can cause strain and pain throughout the muscle. When this pain persists and worsens, doctors or physiotherapists call it as myofascial pain syndrome. 

Risk factors of your muscle trigger points include:

              Muscle injury: Acute muscle injury or continual muscle stress may lead to trigger points. Repetitive motions and poor posture also lead to increase your risk. Especially forward stooping postural persons suffering from this condition.
              Stress and Anxiety: People who frequently experience stress and anxiety, these people may be more clench their muscles, and lead to trigger points. 
Complications associated with myofascial pain syndrome may include: Myofascial pain syndrome may develop Fibromyalgia, Myofascial pain syndrome typically occurs after a muscle has been contracted repetitively. This can be caused by repetitive motions used in jobs or hobbies or by stress-related muscle tension. The next complication is sleeplessness on nights due to pain

A physical therapist can devise a plan to help relieve your pain based on your signs and symptoms.

Myofacial Trigger Release : It helps to find out trigger point and remove it from the injured muscle

Stretching. A physical therapist may lead you through gentle stretching exercises to help ease the pain in your affected muscle. If you feel trigger point pain when stretching, the physical therapist may spray a numbing solution on your skin. 

Posture training. Improving your posture can help relieve myofascial pain, particularly in your neck. Exercises that strengthen the muscles surrounding your trigger point will help you avoid overworking any one muscle. Good working ergonomics help to maintain a good posture. Sit erect, Good hand support, well back support these are all some modifications to get normal posture

Massage. A physical therapist may massage your affected muscle to help relieve your pain. The physical therapist may use long hand strokes along your muscle or place pressure on specific areas of your muscle to release tension.

Heat. Applying heat, via a hot pack or a hot shower, can help relieve muscle tension and reduce pain. 

Ultrasound. This type of therapy uses sound waves to increase blood circulation and warmth, which may promote healing in muscles affected by myofascial pain syndrome.


Medications:

Pain relievers. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) and naproxen sodium (Aleve) may help some people. Or your doctor may prescribe stronger pain relievers. Some are available in patches that you place on your skin.

Antidepressants. Many types of antidepressants can help relieve pain. For some people with myofascial pain syndrome, amitriptyline appears to reduce pain and improve sleep.

Sedatives. Clonazepam (Klonopin) helps relax muscles affected by myofascial pain syndrome. It must be used carefully because it can cause sleepiness and can be habit-forming.
